Description

The first step in successful recycling is to collect the used material to be used for further processing. PET is a sought-after commodity worldwide and it is inefficient for it to end up in incinerators or, worse, directly in landfills. The properties of PET material will allow a given bottle to be recycled several times. Beverage bottles that are transparent or translucent and do not contain too many packaging labels on their surface are recycled. In a first step, the used PET bottles undergo additional sorting, then crushing into small PET flakes and then washing. These washed PET flakes are used to produce a wide range of products from fibres to T-shirts to functional sportswear and carpets. They can also be found as part of sunglasses or car accessories. However, this is often where the lifespan of such products ends. If they reach the end of their useful life, they go to the traditional waste stream. General Plastic focuses on the complete bottle recycling cycle. The PET flake undergoes a decontamination process and serves as raw material for the production of food-grade packaging. From such flakes, we produce preforms from which beverage manufacturers then blow the bottle to their liking.
