Description

ESONA (https://esona.sk/)is a comprehensive system that helps all participants in the process of waste generation, separation and collection. It provides citizens with a transparent invoicing system for the waste actually generated. It allows waste collection companies to properly plan waste collection and its routing. It provides municipalities with a detailed overview of the amount of collected waste and waste container registration. Waste container identification Each municipality has a system that registers all waste containers marked with electronic RFID chips with a unique code. This chip is also assigned to the fee payer in the municipality’s system. The system thus records data on payment orders, payments and waste collections for each payer.

ESONA precisely identifies the type, volume and content of waste containers. It accurately distinguishes between mixed municipal waste and sorted collection of paper, plastics, glass, metals, multilayer materials or biodegradable waste. • Precise assignment of the container and its type to the payer • Reliable distinction between mixed and sorted waste • Automatic records of payment orders, payments and waste collections

Economic benefits

The new registration system brings a positive trend in the economics of waste management for municipalities by making the system significantly more targeted based on the information on waste bins assigned to specific taxpayers. The system helps to introduce a financial incentive for residents and the associated drive to separate as much waste as possible. The decrease in the volume of mixed municipal waste also translates into lower costs for the collection and disposal of waste in landfills.

These steps are helping to gradually change the mindset of the waste producers, i.e. the residents, towards the realisation that they have to pay for the waste they produce. By introducing the solution, municipalities also manage to prevent revenue leakage and thus eliminate entities that have multiple collection bins for which they do not pay, or that unload bins and are not registered for the fee obligation. In addition, the costs in question are fully under the control of the municipality.

Environmental benefits

A transparent process of registration and management of waste bins creates space for motivating citizens to separate waste more, to take responsibility for the waste generated, to save costs and to change their consumption lifestyle to a healthier and more environmentally friendly one.

Also thanks to the comprehensive monitoring of waste exports, the volume of mixed municipal waste produced, which subsequently ends up in landfill in lower volumes, is significantly reduced. Consequently, the proportion of sorted municipal waste is on an upward trend.

Examples of implementation of the solution in practice

The ESONA solution is used by collection companies as well as several dozen municipalities, such as the towns of Senec, Krásno nad Kysucou, Trebišov, Lučenec, Šamorín and Šurany.
