Description

Due to the advancing climate change, the project of the rainwater retention system from municipal buildings is interesting for individuals (private persons), non-profit organizations, but also municipalities, state administration, higher territorial units, etc. With financially inexpensive measures, anyone in their private environment, in the region and anywhere in Slovakia can contribute to adaptation to climate change.

Another advantage is the use of water retention measures to prevent and mitigate the effects of floods from rainwater. Not a rapid drainage of water from an area, but its retention and its gradual evaporation in times of drought. This results in a reduction in the amount of unnecessarily drained and subsequently unnecessarily treated precipitation water in the wastewater treatment plant.

The construction of such measures is associated with the planting of water, hygrophilous greenery and the installation of wooden elements of small architecture, which significantly contributes to the beautification of both private and especially public spaces.

Economic benefits

Reduction of charges for the amount of unnecessarily discharged and subsequently unnecessarily treated rainwater at the wastewater treatment plant.

Environmental benefits

Adaptation to climate change:

Water is retained in the ground in order to store it for times of summer heat to improve the microclimate of the area,
water retention measures to reduce the risk of flooding,
improving the quality of the environment in the centre of the village by revitalising and aestheticising the public space (area of approximately 1.4 ha) by planting water-loving greenery and installing wooden elements of small architecture.

Examples of implementation of the solution in practice

Rainwater retention system.
