Description

Almost all waste that ends up in Slovak landfills today can be rationally used and transferred into a new material or energy. Our vision is the Center for Circular Economy (CCE) project, where waste undergoes sorting, mechanical treatment, pressing, packaging and is returned for further processing. The rest that cannot be used for recycling goes to the Waste to Energy plant (WtE), where heat and electricity are generated and delivered.

Economic benefits

CCE brings €120 million of investment to the region, employment opportunities for almost 200 employees. The CCE includes Circular Economy Research Centres, which can fundamentally help public authorities to guide manufacturers to redesign products in a way that is environmentally acceptable.

Environmental benefits

CCE contributes significantly to environmental protection by eliminating landfilling and thus the uncontrollable production of landfill gases. CCE fully replaces municipal waste landfills, which are to be closed by 2035.

The CCE is significantly more environmentally friendly in the production of heat and energy than conventional sources based on the combustion of fossil fuels (the CCE includes a flue gas filtration plant with four-stage cleaning technology, and compliance with emission limits is also continuously monitored by an automatic monitoring system - AMS).

Through the Centre for Environmental Education, CCE has long been shaping the attitude of children and young people towards environmental protection.

Examples of implementation of the solution in practice

Circular Economy Centre in Šali and Trnava.
