Description

The aim of the Back2Life Re-use Centre is to reuse old but functional items. Items that are unnecessary for someone don't have to end up in the garbage or in a landfill, they can continue to serve other people.

The point of Back2Life is to extend the life of things, thus preventing waste and saving the environment. Back2Life is built on the site of a collection yard in Trnava. The building is constructed from 5 used shipping containers specially adapted for commercial premises. Clients can bring items they no longer need, but are still usable, to the centre free of charge and choose something useful for themselves at minimal prices.

The project includes a website www.back2life.sk (available in Slovak language), where the current range of items is clearly categorised. The client can browse the items and then book them from the comfort of their own home.

Economic benefits

Bringing things back to life prevents the generation of waste, helps to reduce the amount of municipal waste and the amount of waste disposed of in landfills. Waste management fees are also being reduced. The project is run by a social enterprise and also has a social dimension - it employs people who are having a difficult time finding a job on the labour market.

Environmental benefits

The Re-use Centre extends the lifetime of things, prevents waste and saves the environment. The project promotes the circular economy in practice.

It helps to find alternatives to consumerism - to buying new and throwing away old things. The gradual transition from a linear to a circular economy is now a prerequisite for environmental protection and long-term sustainability.
