Description
AfB is the largest not-for-profit IT company in Europe, operating in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Slovakia. Since 2004, it has specialized in the refurbishment and recycling of discarded hardware and its re-marketing. AfB comes from the German Arbeit für Menschen mit Behinderung, i.e. work for people with disabilities. The company employs around 660 people in 20 locations in 5 countries, almost half of them with disabilities. AfB and its parent company Initiative 500gAg aim to create 500 jobs for people with disabilities. Annually, AfB processes 666,000 devices. Up to 70% of these are returned to the market, saving AfB 252,300 MWh of electricity, 31,000 tonnes of raw material resources (converted to iron equivalents), 480 million litres of water and contributing to climate protection by saving 66,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalents. As of June 2019, AfB has operations in Trnava. It has been granted the status of a social enterprise in Slovakia. 71% of the employees are people with disabilities, 100% of the profits are reinvested in the company.
