Description
The main aim of the project was to reduce the impact of intense heat through increasing the proportion of vegetation and water features in the city centre, which can be considered its landmark and the most visited location by locals and visitors alike. The project addresses the construction of a system of measures to retain rainwater and use it for the purpose of increasing evaporation and reducing the temperature in the area.
Economic benefits
Reduction of charges for the amount of unnecessarily drained and subsequently unnecessarily treated rainwater at the sewage treatment plant, saving water for watering adjacent flower beds.
Environmental benefits
The construction of such a system of measures will make it possible to reduce the rate of surface runoff of storm water from the inner city and at the same time it will make it possible to eliminate the negative effects of the climate in the city centre, especially in the form of an increase in the relative humidity of the surroundings and a decrease in the temperature during hot days.
Examples of implementation of the solution in practice
The implementation of the project achieved the revitalization of public spaces and from impermeable surfaces the project allowed to create areas with permeable surfaces and water retention function promoting water evaporation. In addition to the main objective of the project, which was primarily to reduce the negative impact of intense heat waves and gradual evaporation with the effect of cooling the surrounding area, the project also contributed to the beautification of the central administrative and recreational area of the city.
