Description
The impacts of the climate crisis are felt by each of us today, hot weather, drought and overheating of cities are not only plaguing its inhabitants. Therefore, it is high time to give "lost water" hope for a return, eliminate extreme weather fluctuations and make our city healthier. The new "green" portal Zelene.Michalovce.sk informs and educates on how to fight the climate crisis, how to use rainwater, but its main goal is to involve residents in decision-making in the city, thus involving them in transforming their surroundings, their living space. The green portal is financed from EU funds within the framework of the cross-border cooperation Interreg Slovakia-Hungary in the Green Water project (HUSK/2302/1.2/033). So far, people have had the opportunity to vote in the survey "Choose a place where a tree is missing" and directly choose a place on the map where they would like to plant "their" tree. The results of the survey are published at https://michalovce.web-gis.sk/#loc=21.91633!48.754770000000001!2/layers=michalovcenew:t_zelene_michalovce. From a total of 120 trees voted, we will select 80 and plant a total of over 600 trees. The public is also informed about the projects completed so far, when we revitalized green public spaces, supported electromobility, photovoltaics, and outlined the City's intentions to build cycle paths as part of supporting green mobility in the city.
Economic benefits
Economic benefits Thanks to the various projects, urban buildings will experience a significant improvement in the structural and technical condition of the building as well as an improvement in energy efficiency, CO2 emissions will be significantly reduced, savings in primary energy of buildings will be achieved, climate change impacts will be mitigated through the implementation of green measures - water conservation and adaptation measures, the use of renewable energy sources. The photovoltaic power plant (PVPP) will enable the city's schools to reduce their current electricity costs by up to almost 40% in total. In addition, by retaining rainwater, sewerage charges will be reduced.
Environmental benefits
The implementation of green and blue measures will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the city, especially by planting greenery, retaining water in the landscape and thus reducing the temperature in the summer months and slowing down the drying out of the landscape. Evaporation and higher humidity will be encouraged, reducing dust and allergens in the air.
Examples of implementation of the solution in practice
All the green and blue measures implemented so far as well as the ongoing ones in the city are published on the city's green portal: https://zelene.michalovce.sk/.
