Description
The town of Michalovce lies in the heart of Zemplín, it is the administrative seat of the district and the centre of the south-eastern region of Slovakia. It is the gateway to the Zemplínska šírava recreational area with a population of 35 426 (as of 1 January 2024). Institutes, specialised agricultural organisations, enterprises, schools of various levels, cultural and educational centres, non-governmental organisations, health care facilities are located in the town. A qualitative change took place on 20.12.2001, when the Municipal Office Michalovce was the first in the Slovak Republic to be certified according to the international standards ISO 9001:2000. The democratic municipal elections in November 1990 laid the foundations of the municipal government of the City. The Municipal Office (MUB) has 8 departments and 121 internal employees who provide administrative and organisational services.
