Description
The first written references to Margecany date back to 1235. They show that the village of Margecany was founded in the area of the mining town of Gelnica and its original name is linked to the name of the local church. The village of Margecany is situated at the confluence of the Hornád and Hnilec rivers on the left bank of the Ružín dam at an altitude of 330 m above sea level. The highest place is in the northeastern outcrop of the Black Mountain, it is Roháčka with an altitude of 1.028 m above sea level. The lowest place at 320 m above sea level is located on the Hornád River near the Ružinska Dam.
